About the event

Unequal societies cause extreme material hardship for the marginalised, but they also provoke states of feeling: resentment, anxiety, sometimes despair. It is these which contribute to political polarisation and social fragmentation.

For fragmentation to be a general pattern, it must show up between us in the every day. This ComplexitySalon event is aimed at exploring the broader outlines of our contemporary dilemmas, but also intends to reflect on how they manifest in our every day experience at work, and in society more generally. How are we responding? What is our responsibility in engaging with each other in the workplace and more generally in social life?

The discussion is followed by a voluntary experiential group, for which places are limited.

Acknowledgement of Country
We meet from many places, each with its own deep histories of belonging and custodianship. In the spirit of reflexive practice, we acknowledge that the lands we occupy carry obligations we are still learning to understand. In Australia, this begins with recognising the Traditional Custodians of unceded Country and paying respect to Elders past, present and emerging.
